Defender Matt Brown in on Loan at Southport

Skrill Premier manager Alan Wright has completed a deal with League Two side Chesterfield to bring central defender Matt Brown in on loan at Southport.

The 23-year-old central defender joined the Spireites after gaining non-League experience at Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division club Marine. Brown also played for Tranmere Rovers at youth level before joining Manchester City, where he skippered the reserve team.

After trials at Accrington Stanley and Stockport County, he joined Northwich Victoria but suffered with injuries during his spell with The Vics.

It was current Chesterfield first-team coach Kevin Lynch who signed him for the Mariners during his four seasons as manager there and his faith in Brown was confirmed when he joined the Spireites in this summer after a successful trial.

The Sandgrounders will not be able to include Matt Brown in their FA Cup squad this weekend as Brown was not technically signed before the deadline for this round of the FA Cup games.
