Ex-Premier League Star on Trial with Angels

Former Crystal Palace, Coventry and QPR defender Gary Borrowdale is currently on trial with Conference South side, Tonbridge Angels.

The ex-Premier League star is looking to revive his career with the Kent side after a brief spell in Ireland with Carrick Rangers.

Angels’ manager Tommy Warrilow wasted no time in inviting Borrowdale to train with his side after hearing that the former England youth international had moved to Kent and is keen to make him a permanent signing at Longmead, should his budget allow him to do so.

The 28-year old featured in Tonbridge’s pre-season friendly with local rivals Maidstone United on Thursday evening, with an impressive defensive display that clearly portrayed his natural ability and vast experience gained from over 200 appearances as a professional.

At only 28 years old and with a wealth of experience, the potential signing of Borrowdale has sparked excitement amongst the Angels fans and the possibility of a defensive partnership of himself and ex-Brighton & Hove Albion player, Gary Elphick, would cement a strong back line for the upcoming season at Longmead.

Warrilow has already made some inspiring additions to his squad for the upcoming season, including Clark Masters, Ryan Watts, Philip Appiah and another ex-Crystal Palace player in Nathaniel Pinney.

Borrowdale is set to feature for Tonbridge again on Saturday as they take on Tony Burman’s Dartford in their final home pre-season fixture before they welcome Boreham Wood for the start of the 2013/14 campaign on August 17th.
