Banbury United Sign Romanian Claudiu Vilcu

Banbury United have confirmed the signing of 25 year-old 6ft 4in Romanian centre-half Claudiu Vilcu.

Claudiu started his footballing career in his native Romania with the youth team at Brasov prior to playing in the second and third tiers of Romanian football with Unirea Tarlungeni, Minerul Lupeni, Juventus Bucuresti and Dinamo II Bucuresti. He was part of Juventus Bucuresti’s Liga 3 Championship winning team in the 2009/10 season.

In the summer of 2010 he moved to Moldova after signing for Nistru Otaci, where over the course of two seasons he scored nine goals in 48 National Division games. He then joined Crihana Veche for the start of season 2012/13 making 13 appearances for the Moldova side.

He joined Wealdstone in March 2013, but did not make an appearance for the Ryman Premier League side. Claudiu later trialled with Histon and Barnet this pre-season before signing for the Bees. Vilcu also played as a centre-forward earlier in his career.
